"Tuan" Male Orangutan 2006

"Tuan"
Print size 480mm x 358mm, Edition of 495 signed and numbered by David Dancey-Wood.

This drawing is intense. I feel it manages to capture the majesty and solitude of the male orangutan.
Tuan's expression is like that of a patient friend who's listening to us whilst we chat with him in his own home. Vince De Luca.

"I wanted to attempt a large portrait of a male close up, in the hope I could now do it justice. There is no doubt it is a daunting task in front of you when you take a close look at a mature male orangutan's face; just knowing where on earth to start is the first challenge!"

"Tuan is a mature orangutan rescued from the pet trade in Taiwan, now happily residing at Monkey World." David Dancey-Wood. Pencils, Patience and Primates 2007

What a piece of art! I think this is Tuan's best portrait and it captures (as well as the author said) his majesty and also his charm. Congratulations again for such a good job and long life to orangutans!
