Pencils, Patience and Primates
Pencils, Patience and Primates by David Dancey-Wood (Hardcover - Feb 2007)
The Life and Art of David Dancey-Wood

For the first time ever the work of wildlife artist David Dancey-Wood has been collated into this single volume. "Pencils, Patience and Primates" opens a portfolio of his work demonstrating the wide range of his subjects, some of which has not been available before to the general public. Along with the superb reproduction of his pictures, he gives a remarkable account of his struggles, successes and dreams for the future. Tracing a line through from early childhood encounters with pencils and animals to jungle adventures, it captures something of the drive behind this wildlife artist.
I just love this book, it's is beautifully printed and contains many previously unpublished images and all of his already well known images. David talks about his work and his life, with many interesting and sometimes funny moments.
This book is a hardback edition of 187 pages, it is lavishly illustrated throughout with David's black and white pencil drawings, examples of his colour work and colour photographs from his many travels.

"Artists and scientists share a role in shaping people's view of the world, especially in the fields of wildlife art and conservation. David Dancey-Wood is unique in that he is both an exceptional artist and a compassionate conservationist. His art compels us to save them all, from the tiny harvest mouse to the snow leopard."
Tom Macarthy - The International Snow Leopard Conservation Trust.

"As someone who works in oils and colour, I am astonished at the dramatic impact that David's drawings have, whether of a human face or a hippo. With such a diversity of subjects, his work is of out standing quality and deserves to be recognised. I am sure that this book will go a long way to achieve this aim. I wish it every possible success."
David Shepard O.B.E.

"Not just a good read but also a stunning portfolio of wildlife art. This book traces the career of one of Britain's leading pencil artists and highlights the pitfalls, setbacks and problems before success comes to one who has chosen this field of work. David's views are often controversial but the book reveals the passion of both an artist and conservationist. The illustrations are incredible, sometimes it is hard to believe they come from just a pencil - it is worth getting just for the pictures on their own.
I recommend this book for artists, animal lovers and anyone who wants a quality book to grace their coffee table!"
