Fascination! That lion cubs looking at a frog! Said Dad
Here's another great story from one of David Dancey-Woods Fans, Sandra. She kindly sent me this story to share on this blog. It's a lovely story, I'm sure you'll agree.

Hi Vince
I'm happy if you want to share this on your blog.
I've attached a photo of one of my pictures 'fascination'. I wanted to share it with you because 1) it's not one that you sell and 2) on the David Dancey-Wood fan site on Facebook you wanted to hear about which was my favourite print and you were trying to find a jpeg of it. Hope this helps!
This is one of my favourite prints for many reasons. It was one of the first prints we bought (and like you, it wasn't planned, we just happened to walk past Lockwood Studios in Bournemouth and we were drawn into the shop by David's work and have become 'addicted'!).
We've had it hanging in our living room for at least eight years and believe it or not, my Dad only just noticed the frog sitting on the blade of grass very recently!
Fascination By David Dancey-Wood
We have been collecting David's work for quite some time and until I found your website we had five prints (Fascination, A Free Ride, The Clouded Leopard , Contemplation and First Charge ). Now that we've found your site and since I have had a big Birthday recently (which we won't mention!) we are now proud owners of two additional prints, Eddi and Tranquility which are being framed and will soon be hanging in the living room with the rest of them! I think I will need to move house as we are running out of wall space!
Thanks again.
Sandra...........................................................................
I can just see the scene now: your Dad carefully looking at the print, then suddenly noticing the Frog!
And I remember fondly, The Lockwood Gallery which used to be in Old Christchurch Road. They used to display David's Prints in the window, and I remember seeing " Family Day Out " with all the Elephants, in his window. As you know the first print I ever bought was "Snow Cub " and I bought it from Lockwoods.
Also, I know at least one other collector that has a problem with not enough wall space! He's planning an extension.

Hi Sandra,
That's a lovely article and very intresting. I always find it fascinating to learn how people become collectors of art and artists. The way you started is almost identical to me.
Brian Lockwood is a wonderful person and to visit his gallery was always a pleasure. A more kind and knowledgable person you couldn't wish to meet. And between Brian and DDW, they literally taught me everything I know about the business today.
Anyhow, back to your article Sandra. Many people may not know that 'Fascination' ( Lion cub ) and ' A Free Ride' ( Leopard Cub with Leopard Tortoise ) are what we call 'Open Edition' prints, as opposed to 'Limited Edition prints.
In other words there is not a limit on the numeber that can be printed by the company with the contract for producing them. They have sold in their thousands and I've seen them on sale everywhere, including Marwell Zoological Park in Hampshire !
Two exquisite illustrations at a price everyone can afford ! They also make wonderful gifts.
Simon.

I've just enjoyed reading Sandra's story and looking at the lion cub print.
It's amazing how many of us bought our first DDW print from Brian Lockwood's gallery. Like Simon, I too had the utmost repect for him, a really good professional and charming man. When I'm in Bournemouth, and Old Christchurch Rd, I often think what a shame it is that the gallery is no longer there as it was one of the highlights of my visits.
It's great that Sandra has sent in the piece and I hope she'll contribute more on her other prints in the future. I've met lots of DDW fans at his exhibitions and they're all interesting folk. Consequently I hope more of them will now contribute as Sandra has. It's not hard and we all enjoy reading other fans views and discussing David's latest masterpieces.
Thanks Vince for keeping the site up to date. Regards Jon Isaacs

Hi Jon,
Great posting mate, I agree entirely. Lets hope Sandra does contribute some further articles and that more folk who visit the site also make a contribution.
Perhaps it may be a slight lack of confidence, which is a real shame. Non the less, you and Sandra keep up the good work. ! I was discussing the site with DDW last week, and he echoed your sentiments entirely.
This is one of the finest and most interactive art websites I've visited.
Your observations re Brian are spot on Jon. When he closed up shop the art world lost a real gentleman and a real player.
On a number of occasions afterwards, Brian and his lovely wife attended our Open Days with DDW, and I can tell you mate, it made me feel really proud.
